Brenda Joyce Thornburg McClure, 62, of Auburn, passed away January 8, 2007 at Bethany House, surrounded in love by her family, after a long battle with cancer. Funeral services for Mrs. McClure will be Wednesday, January 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 446 S. Gay Street in Auburn, Alabama. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the family cemetery in Arkansas at a later date. Mrs. McClure is survived by her husband of 41 years, Robert Earl McClure and children Dana McClure Robbins (Bert) of Peachtree City, Georgia; Robert Daniel McClure (Cathy) of Jacksonville, Florida; six grandchildren: Laurel Robbins, Anna Lee Robbins, Bishop Robbins, Adele Robbins, Matthew McClure and Elizabeth McClure. Additional family members include: sister, Barbara MacDonald of Virginia Beach, Virginia, sister, Ida Kalck of Yongtown, Arizona, brother, Donald Thornburg, (Sandy) of Richmond, Virginia, brother, Harold Thornburg (Margaret) of Lynchburg, Virginia; special niece, Sandy Jones of Bristol, Virginia and many other loving family members. Mrs. McClure was preceded in death by her parents Worth Caldwell and Lucy Hull Thornburg and sisters, Helen Jones and Jean Jones of Norfolk, Virginia. Mrs. McClure recently retired from Auburn University's Naval ROTCUnit after thirty years of federal civil service. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Auburn/Opelika Emblem Club #280. Brenda will always be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, dedicated sister and selfless friend. Through it all, her most cherished role was as Geega to her grandchildren. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Bethany House/Hospice of EAMC, 665 Opelika Road, Auburn, AL 36830 in memory of Brenda McClure. In addition, the family would like to sincerely thank everyone for al of their love, support and prayers.
