Shirley Marchant (Gibson)
2008-04-28Shirley Gibson Marchant, 62, of the 1600 block of Linden Avenue, went to be with the Lord on April 28, 2008, after a long and courageous battle with colon cancer.
A native of Norfolk, VA, she was a homemaker and formerly worked in the Accounting Department with BB&T Bank. She was a member of Indian River Baptist Church, sang with the gospel group "His Elect", was director of the Indian River Baptist Senior Choir and assisted as pianist at the church. She was a volunteer worker for several associations.
She is survived by her husband, Gene L. Marchant; her daughter, Jennifer M. Piel of St. Cloud, FL; two sons, William Ervin Marchant and significant other Denise of Suffolk, VA and Edward Lindsay Marchant and wife Cyndi of Chesapeake, VA; and her parents, Edward L. and Dorothy Gibson of Norfolk, VA. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Samantha, Lindsay, Kristen, Alexis, William, Mark, Meaghan, John and Michael; a great grandchild, Aiden; a sister, Dorothy Bishop and husband Ralph of Newport News, VA; and a special niece, Tanya Welch, and her family of Lebanon, TN.
A funeral service will be conducted Friday at 12 Noon at Indian River Baptist Church with Rev. Robert E. Jordan officiating. The burial will follow at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
