Norfolk; Joseph William Mizelle, Jr., 63, passed away Monday, November 17, 2008 in Chesapeake General hospital. He resided in Coinjock for the past three years.
He was born in Norfolk the son of the late Joseph William Mizelle, Sr. and Elizabeth Baker Mizelle. Joe retired from the Norfolk Fire Department after twenty three years of service. He also worked as a commercial fisherman and was captain of his boat "Shag Nasty". He was part owner with his cousin of Georges Seafood Market. He served for six years in Virginia National Guard. Joe was well known `as an avid hunter in Curritituck and worked as guide with his father.
He is survived by his cousin Wayne K. Whitley and his wife Julia of Virginia Beach. He also leaves many friends who were like family to Joe. The family extends a special thank you to his friend Karl VonSchaaf who helped Joe so much this past year.
A graveside Service will be held Friday, November 21, 2008 at 10:00 AM at Moyock Cemetery, Moyock, North Carolina. Pastor Scott Wilson-Parsons will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road Virginia Beach. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.altmeyer.com.
