Garland E. Bennett Jr. NORFOLK - Garland E. Bennett Jr., 64, passed away March 20, 2010. A native of Norfolk, he was born May 30, 1945 to the late Garland and Helen Bennett. Garland was a graduate of Norview High School, Class of 1963. For a number of years he was a pipefitter at Norshipco, then he became a real estate broker and started his own business, Bennett Realty. Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Adrianne Bennett Wilson; brother, Carlton F. Bennett; and grandson, Charlie Wilson, all of Virginia Beach. GREENSBORO — Mr. Danny Lee Black went home to be with His Lord on Thursday, October 30, 2008, at Beacon Place in Greensboro.


Celebration of his life will be held 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel. Pastor Brett Thompson will be officiating.


Danny was born on September 3, 1944, in Greensboro, the son of Hiram Mack and Robbie Justice Black. He worked 40 years with the Weyerhauser, Inc. team until his retirement. He was an avid Nascar fan. Shirley Olivia Lane, 57, of the 480 block of Bromfield Ave, passed away September 8, 2002 at a Norfolk hospital. A native of Roanoke, VA, Mrs. Lane was retired from Defense Investigative Services. She was of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Lane is survived by her husband, Linwood S. Lane, Jr. and her son, Linwood S. Lane III and his wife Tricia of Gates County, NC. She is also survived by her three sisters: Mildred Pleasant of Chesapeake, Lucy Bowen of Newport News, VA; and Joani Tayer of Norfolk VA; two brothers, Bobby Hyler of Suffolk, VA and Thomas Hyler of Chesapeake; and a grandson, Linwood S. Lane IV of Merigate, FL.

Henry Clay Burnette, Jr., 69, died at home on Sunday, December 14, 2014.



He was born in Corpus Christi, TX and grew up in Norfolk, Virginia. He was a 1963 graduate of Norview High School.

Henry was a musician in the US Air Force, retiring in 1987. He was an esteemed trumpet player and a celebrated jazz soloist. He was highly regarded throughout his military career, serving at Langley AFB and in Europe. View Memorial and Tributes

Joelle Kay Burrows Griffith, 77, of Virginia Beach, passed away Aug. 9, 2022. She was predeceased by her husband, Bobbie Wayne Griffith and survived by her daughter, Paula Joelle Barwick; sister, Vicki Ellis; and many other loving family members and friends.



A funeral service will be held at 10am on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at First Lutheran Church of Norfolk. Burial will immediately follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

Rick Cahoon, 78, of Arroyo Grande CA, and part time resident of Engelhard NC, died Wednesday April 17, 2024, after being diagnosed with terminal lung and brain cancer.

Rick was born on April 30th, 1945, to Ephron and Sarah Cahoon in Bremerton WA. After graduating from Norview high school in 1963, he went on to study mechanical engineering at NC State, where he became a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and got his engineering degree in 1968.
