1945-02-09 2018-05-25William G. ("Bill") Carr, 73, of Chesapeake passed away peacefully May 25, 2018. He was born February 9, 1945 in Wallace, North Carolina to William J. Carr and Florine Carr. He was predeceased by his father and daughter-in-law Susan B. Carr. Bill retired as a supervisor from the Virginia Beach Schools Transportation Department with 26 years of service. We will never see another school bus and not think of him. As Bill's friends and family can attest, he never knew a stranger and could always find someone to talk to...and was never at a loss for words. 1944-07-23 2003-12-21Richard Andre Claggett, age 59, of Okeechobee, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at his residence. Mr. Claggett was born July 23, 1944, in Ft. Myers, to Joseph Claggett, Jr. and Hollis Claggett. Mr. Claggett was an auto mechanic who came to Okeechobee from Ft. Lauderdale in l996. Mr. Claggett was of the Methodist faith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, having served in Hawaii. He was a member of the American Legion in Illinois. Survivors include: son, Eddy Wenzel of Greenwood, Ind.; and two brothers, Edward and Albert Claggett, both of Florida. Interment will be at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Peggy Anne Clanton, 75, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away on September 11, 2020.
Born and raised in Norfolk, VA, she graduated from Norview High School and attended JMU and ODU. She retired from the Naval Supply Center as a Systems Analyst after 34 years of service.
Peggy is survived by a sister, Nancy Davidson; brother, Maynard Clanton (Nancy); three nieces and a nephew.
A graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice. Condolences may be offered to the family...

Born July 10, 1945 in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Julian and Josephine Darsey. She was the widow of Williard V. Smith.
Survivors include her son, Kevin Michael Stewart; a grandson, Robert Charles Stewart; a sister, Frances Schandel and husband Dave; nephews, Brian and Jeff; close friends, Julie McCallum, Donald White and Mary Bell.

2009-10-20H. Lee Dowdy, Jr., 65, of the 900 block of Norview Avenue, died October 20, 2009, in his home. He was born in Norfolk, VA and was the son of the late Herman Dowdy, Sr., and Dorothy (Moore) Dowdy. Lee graduated from Norview High School and Old Dominion University, finishing with a B.A. in History. He was employed by C & P Telephone Company and later self-employed as an antique car dealer. He was an avid antique car, clock and watch collector. Herman is survived by four cousins, Rodger and David Dowdy, Vicky Baker and Elizabeth Ann Smith; uncles, John, Al, and Kenny Moore; and aunt, Margie (Moore) Jamison; and numerous cousins and friends. Thomas Jackson Duren Jr., 59, of 15th Bay Street, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2004, at a local hospital.
Born in Elizabeth City, N.C., he was the son of the late Thomas Jackson Duren Sr. and Mae Toxey Duren . He had worked as an avionics mechanic for the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his loving family including his daughter, Melissa Ann Duren ; his son, Kenneth Lee Duren , both of Shiloh, N.C.; his brother, William Toxey Duren and his wife Anna of Chesapeake; his sister, Patsy Ellen Duren of Norfolk; and three grandchildren, Maranda, Mason and Arron.
